Speed cameras in West Mercia are operated by the Safer Roads Partnership and speed enforcement sites are located at priority locations where there is either a significant collision history or a high level of concern from local people plus a demonstrated speed problem.
As part of the core site programme, sites are selected using strict criteria set by the Partnership and are also surveyed to ensure that no other viable measure could be introduced to address the collision and speed problem in that area.
As part of our Community Concern programme, assessment is based on the level of concern from local people in combination with a clear speeding issue supported by the appropriate speed data.
We use a combination of fixed and mobile safety cameras and fixed red light cameras. However, whatever the camera type, they are there for one sole purpose – to make our roads in West Mercia safer for all road users.
Community concern speed enforcement The Safer Roads Partnership has introduced a new scheme aimed at addressing community concerns over the impact of speeding drivers on road safety and quality of life.
Local people should raise concerns in the first instance with their Parish Council, via their Local Policing Team or through the PACT (Partners and Agencies Together) process. Parish Councillors can then make a formal request for speed enforcement to the Safer Roads Partnership in writing to PO Box 446, Worcester, WR2 4YR or via email at info@srpwestmercia.org.uk
